I am writing in response to the recent announcement of the suspension of the dental programs at the College of New Caledonia. As a former student of both the dental assisting and dental hygiene programs I was shocked to hear the news.
When considering my future career options and colleges I had only one choice, which was CNC.
I had based my decision to apply to CNC due to the affordability of courses, smaller class sizes, excellent dental clinic facilities and, most importantly, the reputation of the dental programs.
CNC has one of the oldest programs in the province for dental studies and the challenges that come with accreditation all clearly surpassed year after year.
Prior to entering the programs I had received countless recommendations and positive feedback regarding the dental programs and since graduating I have passed along my own stories of success.
Throughout my career I have worked at several dental practices and have been hired solely on the fact that I graduated from CNC dental studies and graduates prior to me have set a high standard of work practices and ethics.
The loss of either program would be a huge deficit to the dental profession at large across the province and to the community of Prince George.
I urge those members of the community to make their voice heard and show their support on March 27 at CNC.
