I have been following the latest education funding cuts at the College of New Caledonia with interest and dismay. Cutting counseling services for students? Am I the only person who is shocked and appalled by this executive and board decision? You only need to read your paper or watch the news to see stories of young people and the frequency of mental health issues, some of which have very tragic outcomes. How does cutting funding to students who need help adjusting to the rigors of academic study help create a new generation of young people who can make their way in the world?

The young people are our future and we need to have services that help them achieve success. I demand that the people tasked with charting the future of CNC think of the harm cutting counseling services at CNC could have on present and future students. Part of the reason this is such a good community to live and raise children is the educational options and services offered at CNC. My challenge to the decision makers at CNC is this cut going to help or hurt current and future students?
