I am writing in response to the pending program cuts, which means the loss of a community resource that the dental department provides, and the loss of the oldest running program at CNC.
How can Henry Reiser lament a budget shortfall, when in the last year, five major administration departments moved to entirely new locations? This meant entirely new furniture, huge cement walls were torn down, and entire areas redesigned. Communications, Human Resources, IT, Deanery, and Facilities were all moved to new, very expensive redesigned locations. Most of these departments have moved, or have been renovated within the college three times in the last decade alone.
Currently at the college there is a 3:1 ratio of faculty to administrators. Who are these people administering? Colleges with 10 times the number of faculty have fewer administers. That is a ridiculous ratio.
At the exact time the college executive is making these broad sweeping cuts to programs, they are creating two more administration positions. How can they be so bold? The college board needs to step in and clear house of all these duplicated, needless, administration programs.
A person struggles to walk if their head is three times bigger than its neck can support. The same holds true for a college when they become too top heavy with administrators. Off with its head, I'd say!
