An apology owed

After reading the Citizen article on the closing of daycares in P.G., I became angry. Angry with the executive director of the CDC for throwing the hard working staff at the CDC under the bus. As a leader of an organization you do not lead by saying that it is because of the union wages we are having to shut down programs. The staff at the CDC put their collective heart and soul into delivering these programs despite the obstacles that they face. They are being paid decent but not extravagant wages to provide care for a vulnerable segment of our society. You, sir, owe all of your staff an apology. Being unionized is becoming the scapegoat of our society. Do not fall into that trap.

The real reason that programs are closing is that our provincial government is cutting back on funding for facilities that have a proven track record of over 40 years serving our community and our kids. I know this as my wife has worked at the CDC for 26 years. The staff do a phenomenal job with the kids at the centre. The executive director needs to rail against the government for the cutbacks not blame the very people who are on the front lines delivering the programs. The government's family first agenda is anything but. Let's hear from our local MLAs on where they stand on delivering quality programs to our kids. Not rhetoric but what it actually means here in their ridings.
