With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stanley James DeMerchant, a man whose warmth
and generosity touched countless lives in Prince George and beyond. Stan passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born in Oliver, BC, and raised in Osoyoos, Stan’s early life included serving his country with pride in the United States Navy (1964-1968), with deployments to the Vietnam War on swiftboats. His life took a beautiful turn in Sydney, Australia, where he found his beloved wife, Linda. Their remarkable 50-year partnership was the foundation of their family, which grew to include three children: Sharlene, Shawn and Steven whom they raised in Prince George.
For five decades, “Stan’s Diesel Service” was a cornerstone of the Prince George trucking / logging community. Stan’s dedication and honest work ethic earned him the unwavering trust and appreciation of countless truckers. His later venture, “S DeMerchant Trucking,” and his own inspection facility further solidified his contributions to the logging community, where he built many enduring lifelong friendships leaving a lasting legacy of reliable support.
Everyone could count on Stan!
Beyond his professional endeavors, Stan was a familiar and enthusiastic face at the PGARA race track in the 1990s, sharing this passion with his two sons.
Stan’s legacy is one of kindness, a strong work ethic, and genuine connection.
He will be profoundly missed by his children, Sharlene (Rod), Shawn (Carmen), and Steven (Susan); his grandchildren, Ryan, Julia, Tommy, Samantha and Kyle (Carey); his great grandsons Evan and Jaxxon and a wide circle of friends and family. He had so many lifelong friendships who will deeply miss
Stan, including his Sunday Breakfast Club. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Linda (2020), his two brothers Floyd DeMerchant, Dale DeMerchant, his sister Jean Rounds, niece Lori Moog and two nephews Kenny DeMerchant and Wade DeMerchant
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the compassionate staff at the Prince George Hospice House for their exceptional care, and to the many family and friends who provided comfort and support in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Prince George Hospice House, a place of great comfort and care.
A Celebration of Stan’s Life will be held on Sunday, June 15th, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Prince George Civic Centre.
