With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Royce Stevenson (Royce) on July 16th, 2025. Born in 1937 in Lashburn, Saskatchewan to James Earl and Mildred Stevenson.
Leaving to mourn is his wife of 67 years, Ann Stevenson, his son Brad (Gail) and daughter Laureen (Norm), his grandson Keenen, and great grandchildren Nixon and Luna. As well as his brother in law Wesley (Mary Jean) Moll, and Irene Moll, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother Stewart.
First and foremost in Royce’s life was his family. He selflessly devoted all of himself to them with the greatest of love, support and generosity. There was nothing more fulfilling to him than sharing family time. A favorite memory of his family was exploring old towns and digging for treasures. Royce enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, fixing and tinkering in his garage. When the garage door was open, everyone was welcome to stop by for a coffee and spin a tale. Royce had a fun sense of humour and liked to pull a leg or two!
Royce had an interesting work life. After he left Saskatchewan, he worked in Eatons Calgary, then transferred to Edmonton with Eatons in the warehouse. He started in the mining industry and moved to Texada Island in 1962. Both his children were born there. While employed with Texada Mines, he participated in many mine rescue competitions that he really enjoyed and won numerous awards with his team. He went on to work in Jordan River, and next stop was with Grand Duke in Stewart, BC. In the early 70s, he moved to Prince George and worked for the Department of Mines. At that time, he was really involved with Search and Rescue and assisted in finding many people. In 1982, he began working for the Workers Compensation Board till his retirement. He enjoyed retirement to its fullest.
