With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Edgar Asgeir Andreas Westgaard, who passed away April 6, 2025, at the age of 86.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of 44 years, Marie (Shaw) Westgaard, step-daughter Karen Stratton, sister Sonya Stoltz, brother Roger Westgaard and baby sister Karen. Ed leaves behind a legacy of love and hard work that will be cherished by those who knew him.
Ed is survived by his children, Cheryl (Jim) Goodyear, Blair (Donna) Westgaard and Dale (CJ) Westgaard. His sisters: Eileen (Jim) Hoff, Marion Laing, and his brother Ralph Westgaard. He will be deeply missed by his cherished grandchildren, Jenna Brooke, Keri Bell, Cassie Westgaard, Eric Westgaard, Alysha (Jeremy) Makortoff, and Melissa Goodyear. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, as well as friends and family in Norway.
Born in Norway on November 9, 1938, Ed immigrated to Canada with his family in 1949, eventually settling in Prince George where he lived most of his life. He started working at 16 years old, and found a profession in construction, working on many buildings such as the Prince George Coliseum and Queensway Towers, along with building his first house. He had a long tenure at Northwood Pulp and Paper, starting in early 1966 to his retirement in 2003. He also spent a lot of time working at the family grooming salon where he enjoyed bathing the dogs and working alongside his wife, daughter and sister. Ed had a lifelong love of WWII planes, and many hours were spent doing models of them. He also enjoyed weight lifting and wrist wrestling. But he loved most all sports, and spent many hours with his sons at hockey, and his daughter with her horses and dogs.
Ed’s life was a testament to his strength, resilience, unwavering love, loyalty and dedication to his family. His great love was for his wife, Marie, followed by his children and grandchildren. He was always kind, generous, humble, honest, with great integrity. Ed was a man who loved his family right to the end. He worked hard, never complaining (much). He was loud sometimes, gruff as well, but a big man with an even bigger heart. He was very supportive, and although not an extremely social man, he truly enjoyed times with good friends and family.
There will be no service at Ed's request, but there will be a celebration of his life, the date and time will be announced at a later time. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved.
