Prince George Bylaw Services has impounded an ATV which was stolen and left abandoned in Moore's Meadow Nature Park for more than a month.

The Polaris side-by-side ATV was first reported abandoned to the RCMP on Dec. 15, Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass said in an email. The police received multiple calls about the ATV in the following weeks.

"It had not been reported stolen, but appears to have been," Douglass said. "The registered owner was advised to remove the ATV several times."

The RCMP investigated, but no charges have been laid in the case.

"Bylaw (services) is impounding the vehicle," City of Prince George spokesperson Michael Kellett said on Thursday. "The city worked with the towing company to plow down to where it was."

City crews plowed a path from the Rocky Mountain Rangers military base on Dornbierer Crescent down into the popular off-leash dog area and multi-use park.

"Parks has known about it since the day after it happened," Kellett said on Monday. "I guess it's been a bit harder than people thought to get it out of there. It ended up there during the commission of a crime. Somebody rammed through the posts and went down there."

Kellett wasn't able to comment if the owner of the ATV will face any fines for the cost of recovering the vehicle.

Motorized vehicles are normally prohibited in the park.
