There were 46 new cases of COVID-19 and one COVID-related death in the Northern Health region reported on Tuesday, according to a joint statement issued by provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.
Nine additional COVID-related deaths were reported across the province on Tuesday, including one person in the Northern Health region. The province's death toll from the pandemic rose to 1,019 – including 43 in the north.
"We offer our condolences to everyone who has lost their loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic," Henry and Dix said.
The number of active cases in northern B.C. wasn't provided, but on Tuesday the B.C. Centre for Disease Control reported 497 active cases in the Northern Health region – the same as on Monday. There were 43 people hospitalized in the north with COVID, including 16 in intensive care.
"Today, we are reporting 446 new cases, including 10 epi-linked cases, for a total of 58,553 cases in British Columbia," Henry and Dix said. "There are 5,045 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. There are 368 individuals currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 72 of whom are in intensive care."
Public health officials were monitoring 7,238 people who had exposures to known COVID-19 cases in B.C.
An additional 2,392 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 in the province since Monday's update, bringing the total number of people vaccinated to 62,294, Henry and Dix said.
"Our focus is to ensure we safely deliver the vaccines as quickly as possible to B.C. communities, using all available supply," they said.
Since the start of the pandemic a total of 58,553 people in B.C have been diagnosed with COVID-19, including 2,606 in the Northern Health region. Of those 51,144 (2,049 in the north) have recovered.
"Things are different than what they were before the pandemic," Henry and Dix said. "But we have learned, we have adapted, and by following the orders and rules for a bit longer, we will soon get to the brighter days ahead."
