A Prince George construction firm has been awarded at $5.4 million contract to build a pair of bridges on Haida Gwaii.

Formula Contractors Ltd. will be building two steel and concrete bridges along Highway 16 between Port Clements and Tlell to replace two timber bridges that are at the end of their service life.

The Gold Creek Bridge will be a two-lane, 21-metre-long bridge located eight kilometres southwest of Port Clements. The Gelkie Creek Bridge will be a two-lane, 21-metre bridge 3.5 km northwest of Tlell.

Construction is expected to be complete in fall 2020.

Highway 16 is the only highway on Graham Island and runs over 100 km from Masset to Skidegate.
