Conifex Timber has extended a curtailment at its Mackenzie sawmill for another four weeks.
The move is being made in response to "continued weakened global demand for forest products amid sustained uncertainty from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic," the company said Monday.
The step comes as a two-week curtailment, invoked in mid-April, was to come to an end. June 1 is the new date for lifting the curtailment which not expected to have any adverse consequence on bioenergy operations.
"Conifex will continue to closely monitor the evolving market conditions, customer demand and the global COVID-19 response while prioritizing employee health and safety considerations," the company said.
About 160 workers are affected.
