Two Prince George men are in custody suspected of staging a home invasion in order to steal a dog.

Shayn Robert Bulmer, 23, and Dylon Sadillo McLemore, 23, have each been charged with break and enter to commit an indictable offence, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of assault with a weapon.

They were arrested on Friday evening shortly after police were called to an 1800-block Tamarack Street home.

Prince George RCMP said it appears the two had entered the home brandishing what appeared to be firearms and demanded the occupants, two men, hand over a dog.

The men refused and called police. The two had tried to flee via the back door but were apprehended, RCMP said.

"Search of the residence found a rifle, a BB gun that resembled an assault style rifle, and body armour," RCMP said. "All were believed to have been left behind by the suspects."

The suspects and one of the home's occupants are known to each other and the incident appears to have been a targeted attack, RCMP added, and noted a toddler was sleeping in the home at the time.

"No one, including the dog, was physically injured," RCMP said.

The two remained in custody as of Monday.
