It was a hasty hasta la vista for Prince George's Stefan Ziers at the Pan American Games Wednesday.

Zwiers, competing in judo in the under-100 kilogram category, took a bye in the first round. Then he met defeat at the hands of Cuba's Oreydi Despaigne in the quarterfinals.

"I took three penalties, but I still thought I fought well against him," said Zwiers. "He's an ex-world champion so I knew it was going to be a real challenge

for me."

He then suffered a lost to Colombian Camilo Edilfonso Castano.

"I was really disappointed in the way I competed against the Colombian," said Zwiers. "Even though it's the first time I've faced this judoka, I should have won. In the end it's all part of the learning process, and I can only hope to do better next time."
