Youth bowlers strike for provincial spots

When the dust settled after five games, Arnett - whose home club is Prince George's Black Diamond Lanes - edged Alex Airey of Williams Lake-based Cariboo Bowl by two points to win the YBC 4 Steps to Stardom zone championship.

Cole Broen of Cariboo Bowl won the bronze medal with a score of 1,173 points.

Twenty athletes from Terrace, Prince George, Quesnel, Smithers, Dawson Creek and Williams Lake competed in the senior boys category at Black Diamond Lanes on Sunday.

Arnett now qualifies for the 4 Steps to Stardom provincial singles championship in Langley at Willowbrook Lanes on Feb. 28.

Not to be outdone, Arnett's sisters Jadyn and Jesslyn will be joining him at provincials.

Over at Nechako Lanes, site of the girls competition, Jadyn, 10, won the bantam girls zone title with a score of 1,058. She beat Emma Ridley of Nechako Lanes by 303 pins for gold. Ridley won the silver medal with 755 points while Tapenga Podger of Rev Bowling Lanes in Quesnel won the bronze medal with 685 points.

Jesslyn rolled 975 points to win the junior girls title, 29 pins better than Madison Richter of Smithers who won the silver medal with 946 points.

Amber Underwood of Terrace won the bronze medal with 910 points.

Amber Fast of Prince George's Nechako Lanes was fourth with 901 points.

In bantam boys, Hudson Rosebush of Dawson Creek's Hypertension Escape won the zone title with 660 points. Aiden Parker of Black Diamond Lanes followed with the silver medal with 657 points, while Wyatte Kech of Nechako Lanes won the bronze medal with 603 points.

Corbin Taylor of Rev Bowling Lanes won the junior boys title by 83 pins, scoring 1,120 points. Ben Hendrickson of Nechako Lanes won the silver medal with 1,037 points, followed by Dean Florell of Nechako Lanes with 998 points.
