The city of Prince George was prominent in the hockey world's two biggest tournaments over the holiday season.

Four Prince George Cougars carried the city's flag as representatives of the Prince George Cougars at the under-19 world junior championship in Buffalo, N.Y., and the world under-17 challenge in Manitoba.

Cougar forward Brett Connolly, 18, helped Canada win a silver medal playing for Team Canada, which lost 5-3 to Russia in the final Wednesday night. He finished the tournament with three assists. Defenceman Martin Marincin, 18, represented Slovakia in the world junior tournament for the second straight year. The offensive-minded Marincin played two games, but was suspended for the rest of the tournament due to an illegal hit.

Forward Troy Bourke, 16, and defenceman Josh Smith, 16, played on the bronze-medal winning Team Pacific at the under-17 tournament. Bourke collected three goals and eight points in six games, while Smith assisted on the overtime winner in the bronze medal game against Quebec.

To commemorate their efforts as Prince George ambassadors, Mayor Dan Rogers will make a special presentation to Connolly, Marincin, Bourke and Smith prior to tonight's game against the Vancouver Giants at CN Centre.
