Darren and Tiffany Witala are getting their boy back.
The parents of Tyson Witala were no doubt overjoyed with the news Wednesday the Prince George Spruce Kings have completed a trade with the Westside Warriors to bring Tyson back to his hometown, in exchange for future considerations.
Witala, an 18-year-old forward, needs no introduction to the Spruce Kings. In eight games as a Kings' affiliated player last year he scored a goal and added three assists. He played three games for Westside, picking up one goal and one assist.
He skated last season for the Prince George-based Cariboo Cougars of the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League. In 37 games the five-foot-10, 167-pound Wytala collected 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points, as well as 111 penalty minutes.
"Tyson is a local hockey product who we are very familiar with," said Spruce Kings general manager, Mike Hawes. "We are fortunate to be able to acquire him as he is an offensively-gifted player who is also defensively responsible and plays with an edge. He will be a good player for us for the next few years."
Witala is expected to be in the lineup on Friday when the Kings (1-2-0-1) host the Penticton Vees (3-1-0-0) in the first of a two-game set at the Coliseum.
