The Canada West university soccer season is two months away and both UNBC Timberwolves teams are making plans to hit the ground running.
The season starts on Friday, Aug. 22 at Masich Place Stadium when the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack head north to take on the TWolves.
The women’s game is at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s match at 8 p.m.
The same teams meet again on Sunday, Aug. 24 (women at noon, men at 2:30 p.m.).
Neil Sedgwick is back for his 10th season as head coach of the TWolves women’s team, while men’s head coach Steve Simonson is heading into his 11th season.
Both coaches are looking for better results in 20205, coming off last-place finishes in the Pacific Division.
The women went 1-13, and the men finished with a 2-12-1 record.
The UNBC women play a 14-game season (all in BC) and five of the first seven are home games on the turf at Masich.
They’ll hit the road for games at Fraser Valley Aug. 28-29, then will be back in PG to face the UBC Thunderbirds Sept. 5 and 7 and UBC-Okanagan Heat on Sept 12.
The women play last home series Oct. 3 and 5 against Trinity Western and they’ll wrap up the season Oct. 11-12 in Kelowna at UBC-O.
After their opening series against Thomson Rivers, the UNBC men will be road warriors for consecutive weekends, facing Trinity Western Spartans in Langley, Aug. 29-30, before they take on the Victoria Vikes, Sept. 6-7.
They’ll travel to Saskatoon to play the Saskatchewan Huskies, Sept. 12, then have back-to-back games in Calgary the following weekend, facing the Calgary Dinos, Sept. 20, and Mount Royal Cougars, Sept. 21.
Four of their last six are home games for the UNBC men.
They’ll go back-to-back at Masich against Fraser Valley, Sept. 26-27, play at UBC-O, Oct. 4-5, then after a bye weekend, end their 15-game schedule Oct. 17 and 19 at home to UBC.
