It was better late than never when Bob Williams showed up at the PGARA Speedway last weekend for his first ARCA OK Tire Sportsman Series race of the 2012 season.

Work kept Williams from the first two races, in Vernon and Williams Lake, of the ARCA season but he didn't show any rust last Saturday, finishing second in the rain-shortened main event.

"It's good to get back out," said Williams. "It's kind of fun to run in front of the home crowd."

Williams said he's looking to improve upon his seventh place finish,155 points, in 2011, competing in five of the six races.

"The crew's a little stronger so we're expecting good things," said Williams.

Last year, in his first outing Williams "had a bit of bad luck" and crashed his car which affected his season.

Williams taken the checkered flag twice in his 14-year career and finished second in five races and was the points champions in 2004 and 2006 in the former WESCAR Series.

The 53 year old said hopping in his No. 5 car keeps him young.

"There's some good young drivers in the series and it's kind of fun to chase them around and give them fits," said Williams. "We're the old boys taking on the young guys."

Though, he said he wasn't too happy last year when his pit crew advertised his status as a grandfather.

"For a bit of a joke the boys put 'Mason's grandpa' over the door instead of my name," said Williams about his 13-month-old grandson. "I didn't like it last year but I'm getting used to it."
