Wheatcroft tops 100 points as Cougars ground Rockets

The Cougars need only two more points to clinch home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The Prince George Cougars doubled up the Kelowna Rockets 6-3 Wednesday at CN Centre.

Chase Wheatcroft led the way, collecting two goals and three assists. He’s now only the second Cougar in team history to score more than 100 points in a regular season and he’s four goals shy of 50 for the year, with four games left.

Ethan Samson, Blake Eastman, Caden Brown and Koehn Ziemmer also scored in the win, while Tyler Brennan made 27 saves for his 19th victory of the season, including a highlight-reel goal line save while the Cougars were killing a four-minute penalty in the second period.

The Cougars need only two more points to clinch home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The Victoria Royals are in town for two games on Friday and Saturday.

They were hammered 11-1 in Kamloops by the Blazers on Wednesday night.
