Tj Pruneda of the Roswell Invaders winds up against the Thurston County Senators on Tuesday afternoon at Citizen Field. Because of his throwing style, Pruneda has drawn comparisons to iconic Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela. In the game, part of the Ramada World Baseball Challenge, the Invaders beat the Senators 11-1. Later Tuesday night, Canada Sidearm Nation took on the Kamloops Sun Devils. The game was still in progress at press time.

Today is Aboriginal Youth Day at the Ramada World Baseball Challenge.

In a partnership between CN and the tournament, CN purchased 250 tickets for aboriginal youth to take in the action today at Citizen Field. Games on the schedule are the Thurston County Senators versus Team Japan at 4 p.m. and the Roswell Invaders against the Kamloops Sun Devils at 8 p.m.

Tickets were distributed to Lheidli T'enneh, the Prince George Native Friendship Centre, Carrier Sekani Family Services, the Kikino Metis Children & Family Services Society and the CNC student union.

"It was important to recognize the Lheidli T'enneh as we are participating on their traditional territory," said WBC chairman Rick Pattie in a media release. "The committee thought it was important to give back to the local aboriginal communities so we decided to have a youth day to recognize the significance of the aboriginal communities to Prince George and surrounding areas. When we approached CN, they were excited to be able to join in on this event."

Five teams - Thurston County, Japan, Roswell, Kamloops and Canada Sidearm Nation - are competing for the WBC title.

Games continue through Friday, at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. daily. On Saturday, the bronze-medal game will start at 2 p.m., while the championship final is slated for 6 p.m.
