Paul De Jersey had a pair of goals Friday as the Prince George Spruce Kings fell 9-2 to the Penticton Vees.

The Vees opened up a 4-0 advantage at the South Okanagan Event Centre in front of 1,552 fans before De Jersey scored his third goal of the season in the second period to put the visiting Spruce Kings on the board.

The 19-year-old picked up his second goal of the night on Vees goaltender and Prince George product Michael Garteig on the power play with nine seconds to go.

The loss drops the Kings to 1-2 on the season in the British Columbia Hockey League, while the Vees moved to 2-1.

Penticton led 3-0 after the first period on goals from Curtis Loik, Ryan Reilly and Mario Lucia, while outshooting the Kings 15-6.

In the second period, the Vees added four goals to take a 7-1 lead after 40 minutes. Kirk Thompson was replaced in the Kings' net after the fifth goal by former Cariboo Cougar Marcus Beesley. Thompson faced 21 shots.

Penticton's Travis St. Denis scored his first of two goals on the evening in the middle frame.

The Kings' frustrations boiled over in the third period with a parade to the penalty box, starting with a game misconduct to Trevor Esau after the Kings veteran tried to fight the Vees' Connor Reilly. Esau was the second King to hit the showers early as Leo Fitzgerald left the game midway through the middle frame after taking a checking from behind penalty.

Penticton added a pair of power-play goals in the third period from brothers Ryan and Mike Reilly. Ryan ended the night with four points, including two goals.

The Spruce Kings play in Vernon tonight at 7 p.m. against the three-time defending BCHL champion Vipers.
