Vanderhoof park gets provincial boost

Vanderhoof's Riverside Park will be getting a major facelift, thanks to a $366,000 grant from the Towns for Tomorrow program.

Vanderhoof's Riverside Park will be getting a major facelift, thanks to a $366,000 grant from the Towns for Tomorrow program.

The funding will result in the installation of a 22,000 square metre multi-sport field, mobile stage and lighting, outdoor exercise equipment similar to Prince George's Seniors' Park and accessible washrooms.

"The community of Vanderhoof recognizes the importance of cultural and recreational infrastructure in retaining and attracting residents to our community," Vanderhoof MayorGerry Thiessen said. "We have been working hard to make Vanderhoof a welcoming community for individuals, families and professionals and this project is an important piece in achieving this goal."

The project is one of 47 projects approved so far under the Towns for Tomorrow provincial grant program, which provides infrastructure grants for communities with populations less than 15,000 people.

"Towns for Tomorrow helps smaller communities like Vanderhoof with resources to deal with the challenges they face," Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad said. "Riverside Park serves a population of over 8,000 people who will all benefit from these upgrades."
