The Prince George Spruce Kings have announced two player signings.
Defenceman Mikey Tkac and forward Michael Denney are committing their services to the BC Hockey League team for the 2025-26 season.
Tkac, an 18-year-old dual citizen of the United States and Slovakia, played for Slovakia in the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and also represented that country internationally as aU27 team member in the 2023-24 season.
Listed at six-foot-two, 192 pounds, Tkac is from Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
In 41 games last season with the Slovakian U18 and HC Kosic U20 squads he collected three goals and seven assists. In also added four assists in six relegation round games for HC Kosice U20.
“Mikey is a very intelligent player who can excel in all areas of the game,” said Hawes. “His addition to the group really helps solidify our back end.”
Denney, a 19-year-old native of Keswick, Ont., who stands five-foot-seven and weighs 157 pounds, played junior A in Ontario the past two seasons.
He collected 15 goals and 30 assists in 46 games last season in the Ontario Junior Hockey League with the Leamington Flyers. He also had four goals and eight assists in 10 playoff games.
Denney played the 2023-24 season in the Greater Ontario Hockey League with the Stratford Warriors and put up 33 goals and 51 points in 47 regular season games, adding nine goals and 13 points in 14 playoff games.
“Michael is a great young man and teammate who is a gifted offensive player and plays the game hard,” said Hawes. “He is another great addition to our forward group.”
