UNBC women will face VIU for gold

The University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves' women's basketball team punched their ticket to the gold-medal game Friday at the PACWEST conference championship with a 71-48 win over the Camosun College Chargers.

Sarah Robin led the way for the T-wolves with 19 points, four rebounds and two steals, while Kady Dandeneau added 14 points and nine rebounds.

The UNBC women will face the Vancouver Island University Mariners in the final Saturday at 6 p.m., with the winner earning a berth to represent the PACWEST at the 2012 CCAA nationals in Lethbridge, Alta., from March 15 to 17.

The Mariners beat the host school Capilano University Blues in the early semifinal Friday 59-54 in overtime.

During regular season action the T-wolves and Mariners split two games with each winning on its home court.

The UNBC men will attempt to make it a double T-wolf gold battle Saturday when they tip off in the semifinal at 6 p.m. tonight versus the Chargers. VIU plays Capilano in the second men's semifinal at 8 p.m.
