It didn't take long for the UNBC Timberwolves men's basketball team to make a mark in the Canada West.
The T-wolves (1-0) took a 33-32 lead into the half and held on in the fourth quarter to beat the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack 69-67 in their inaugural game as a member of the CIS in the Canada West conference. The Wolfpack outscored their opponents 19-14 in the final quarter in front of 350 people at the Kamloops based school.
T-wolves newcomer Navjot Bains led the team with 15 points, four rebounds, but the offensive attack was balanced. Sam Raphael put up 14 points while Francis Rowe had 13 and Joel Rybachuk notched 11.
Will Ondrik led the Wolfpack with 14 points, while Blaz Bozinovic had the double-double with 10 points, 16 rebounds.
The T-wolves women weren't so fortunate in their CIS opening game, falling 78-61 to the Wolfpack women despite a double-double from Emily Kaehn (14 points, 11 rebounds).
