UNBC's men's basketball squad downed the Mount Royal Cougars 71-60 to earn its first win of the season Friday night.
The victory, in front of 1,300 fans at the Northern Sport Centre - UNBC's home-opener - snapped the T-wolves four-game losing streak.
UNBC improves to 1-4 on the season in the Explorers Division of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Canada West Conference.
It was the second-straight loss for the Cougars who fall to 2-3.
The Timberwolves ran out to a lead early in the game and never surrendered it. They held a 32-27 lead at half-time, and extended that to 53-40 by the end of the third quarter.
Three UNBC players scored in double digits, led by third-year guard Rhys Elliot with a team-high of 14 points.
Jeff Chu was next with 13 points and hauled in nine rebounds, while Franco Kouagnia had 13 points and five rebounds.
Fourth-year forward James Lefebvre led the Cougars with 14 points and seven rebounds.
UNBC will seek its second-straight win tonight when the two teams battle at 7 p.m. at the Northern Sport Centre.
