UNBC hopefuls show their stuff

A typical identification camp it was not.

A typical identification camp it was not.

But, those who conducted a weekend talent assessment for the UNBC Northern Timberwolves men's basketball team still regarded it as a key opportunity to strengthen a program that is already of national-championship calibre.

In the absence of former head coach Mike Raimbault, announced last Tuesday as the new sideline boss of the Winnipeg Wesmen, UNBC assistant coach Trent Folk -- with help from ex-coach Zane Robison -- led the proceedings Saturday and Sunday at the Northern Sport Centre. Despite the vacant coaching position, and despite the fact available roster spots for 2010-11 appear to be scarce, 21 new players took advantage of the opportunity to show their stuff. Folk and Robison were happy to see so many bodies on the court, even if only one or two of them eventually end up in UNBC uniforms.
