U-16 field lacrosse battles at provincials

They were young, and they learned.

They were young, and they learned.

The Prince George-based under-16 field lacrosse team, which represented the north, came up on the short side of the score in all three games it played at the provincial championship, which was staged in Victoria last weekend.

The Northern B.C. squad, comprised of eight players who could still suit up at the under-14 level, opened with a 16-8 loss to Oceanside, then were beaten 13-3 by the eventual champions from Richmond. In their last outing, Northern B.C. was defeated 16-4 by the Abbotsford region, a team that went on to finish second.

Cole Paciejewski, a recent B.C. Lacrosse Association junior A draft choice of the Delta Islanders, led the team's offence with four goals and nine assists, chipping in on all but two of his team's goals. Connor Buick of Kitimat, a Langley Thunder draft selection, had three goals and there assists.

The younger members of the team, including goaltender Kieran Muir, are eligible to play for the region in this summer's B.C. Summer Games in Langley.
