Two-time Olympian coming to P.G.

For young badminton players who want to swing to the top of the charts, it helps to learn from one of the best. Anna Rice certainly fits that category, and in October she's coming to Prince George as part of the Northern B.C. Badminton Roadshow.

For young badminton players who want to swing to the top of the charts, it helps to learn from one of the best.

Anna Rice certainly fits that category, and in October she's coming to Prince George as part of the Northern B.C. Badminton Roadshow.

Rice, a two-time Olympic team member and the 2009 U.S. Open women's singles champion from North Vancouver, will join forces with Canadian men's doubles champions Alvin Lau and Jon Vendervet, as well as Christin Tsai, the current U-19 national champion, in a weekend skills camp/exhibition, Oct. 21-23 at the College of New Caledonia.

Rice, a top-16 finisher at the Beijing Olympics, retired in 2009 after competing internationally for 12 years.

Rice and the junior development team from the Shuttlesport North Central Badminton Academy (SNCBA) will bring the fall Roadshow to Fort St. John (Sept. 23), Dawson Creek (Sept. 24), Chetwynd (Sept. 25) and Mackenzie (Sept. 26) for a series of adult and youth camps. Rice will continue on to Vanderhoof (Sept. 27), Burns Lake (Sept. 28), Smithers (Sept. 29), Terrace (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) and Quesnel (Oct. 20), visiting schools and teaching clinics.

Fall registration for badminton at the SNCBA will take place at Rec Mart at the Pine Centre Mall, Sept. 11 and 12.
