Trojans' triple threat confound rivals

Hayden Molcak is in his second season playing on the D.P. Todd junior A boys' team, but it's more fun this year because his brothers are also playing.

"We definitely spend enough time around each other to know what's going on between the three of us and know what move is up next and where to go at certain times and with passing," says the youngest and tallest, at six-foot-four, of the triplets. "We just kind of know where each other is."

Colby has the claim of being the oldest of the 14-year-old siblings, born three minutes before Hayden, but looks up to his brothers at just six-feet, while Joel, is in the middle in age and height at six-foot-one.

"We don't really look alike," says Hayden, admitting they get some strange looks when they tell people they're triplets. "They definitely don't believe us sometimes when we tell them."

The trio made headlines in the past with their participation in speed skating, but are now content to battle on the hard court or in the music room - Joel is a drummer and Colby and Hayden play guitar.

Hayden played with Trojans' teammates Justin Bennett and Manni Dhemi on the the under-14 regional team when he was 13 and then played again last summer with his brothers. He was invited to tryout for the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games basketball team, but was unable to make it due to a family commitment on the same weekend.

"I'm definitely going to tryout for the BC team this year," says Hayden.
