The D.P. Todd Trojans and College Heights Cougars served to seventh and eighth-place finishes respectively at the Coyote Classic senior boys volleyball tournament in Winfield on the weekend.

The Trojans edged the Cougars 2-1 (25-23, 23-25, 15-13) to finish seventh.

The squads were tied for seventh after the first round of playoffs and chose to play the game to determine seventh Monday night at D.P. Todd instead of the host school, George Elliot.

D.P. Todd, the seventh-ranked double-A team in the province, lost 2-0 to Vernon's Clarence Fulton, the third-ranked team in B.C., in its first round-robin game.

The Trojans rebounded to defeat Penticton, the eighth-ranked triple-A side, 2-1 (22-25, 25-20, 27-25) but lost to Kelowna's Mount Boucherie, the fifth-ranked triple-A squad, 2-1 (18-25, 25-21, 15-25) in a quarter-final match.

The Cougars defeated the 10th-ranked double-A squad George Elliot 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-12) and the sixth-ranked double-A side Surrey Christian 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 17-15).

They then lost to Abbotsford's top-ranked MEI 3-0 (19-25, 17-25, 13-25).

Both sides are at a tournament at Duchess Park this weekend.

In the junior division, the College Heights junior B girls beat Duchess Park Black 2-0 (25-16, 25-23) to win Kelly Road's tournament on the weekend.

The Cougars went undefeated in the two-day event to win gold.

The PGSS Polars won the bronze medal, edging the Duchess Park White Condors in three sets.

The nine-team tournament also included Duchess Park Black, Kelly Road, D.P. Todd, Cedars Christian, Quesnel and McBride.
