D.P. Todd is off to the provincial championship in Burnaby in boys soccer after nipping the Duchess Park Condors 2-1 in double overtime Monday at the zone championship in Williams Lake.

The final was three minutes away from penalty kicks when the Trojans Sean Gaiesky was able to beat Condors' keeper Mike Sexton for the victory. In the shootout this season, the Trojans were 0-3 against Sexton and the Condors.

Duchess Park opened the scoring in the 65th minute off a "beautiful header." The Trojans fought hard for the tying goal, but it wasn't until the final minute of regulation when Matteo Mauro strode past a Condors' defender and found the back of the net, despite getting tripped up, to even the game at 1-1.

The two Prince George schools have met in the zone final the past three years.

The Trojans head to Burnaby from Nov. 21 to 23 for the high school provincial championship. D.P. Todd was 14th at provincials in 2009 and 13th in 2010.

The Trojans beat Williams Lake Secondary 2-1 to finish on top of Pool A after Gaiesky scored on a header with two minutes left in the game.

In the semifinal, the Trojans held a 2-0 advantage at the half over the College Heights Cougars, but had to hold on in the final 10 minutes as the Cougars, trailing 2-1, stepped up the pressure.
