Trojans have tough road

A loss in the zone championship game proved oh-so costly for the D.P. Todd Trojans senior girls basketball team.

When the Trojans fell 63-55 to the Nechako Valley Viqueens, they surrendered the north central zone's top berth in the double-A provincial championship tournament. D.P. Todd had to settle for the second berth, which meant a lower ranking for provincials.

The 16-team B.C. tournament starts today in Kamloops. The Vanderhoof-based Viqueens are the No. 5 seed and the Trojans are No. 8. And that three-spot difference was enough to give the Trojans the toughest possible road to the final game.

Today, D.P. Todd faces the ninth-ranked Holy Cross Crusaders of Surrey. If the Trojans do win, they'll run smack into the No. 1 York House Tigers, the most dominant double-A team B.C. has seen in several seasons.
