Almost.

The D.P. Todd Trojans came oh-so-close to knocking off the rival Nechako Valley Viqueens in the final of a Nechako Valley senior girls basketball tournament Saturday night in Vanderhoof. The Trojans were just moments away from victory. But, with six seconds left on the clock, the Viqueens drained a three-pointer to tie the game and send it to overtime. In the extra session, Nechako Valley squeaked out a 66-65 win.

Amanda Van Dolah was brilliant for the Viqueens and finished with 27 points. Teammate Michelle Schmidt, with 16, also had a strong outing. Danielle Steel scored 16 points for the Trojans and Sunita Bansal added 15.

To put the narrow loss in perspective, the Trojans were handled with relative ease by the Viqueens in a pair of games played before Christmas. In the final of the Northern Classic, Dec. 11 at D.P. Todd, the Viqueens recorded a 65-45 victory. Then, at the Condor Classic on Dec. 17, Nechako Valley downed D.P. Todd 58-47.

In their other weekend games at Nechako Valley, the Trojans downed the College Heights Cougars 73-49, beat the Columneetza Cougars of Williams Lake 65-50 and defeated the PGSS Polars 56-30.

D.P. Todd, Duchess Park and Nechako Valley will all compete at a Sa-Hali secondary tournament in Kamloops this coming weekend.
