Try as he might, Kevin Gaiesky just can't break through for gold at the B.C. high school track and field championships.

Gaiesky, from D.P. Todd secondary, was edged out for top spot in the 1,500-metre race walk for the third consecutive year. This time, fellow Grade 11 student Ben Thorne -- from Kitimat's Mount Elizabeth secondary -- got to the finish line just centimetres ahead of him. Thorne's time in the Friday race at Burnaby's Swangard Stadium was six minutes 21.95 seconds. Gaiesky, meanwhile, was clocked at 6:21.97. Nobody else was close to them. The third-place finisher, Spencer Gaby of Parkland, posted a time of 7:19.69.
