Jose Araujo led the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves men's basketball team to a 94-42 win Friday over the Columbia Bible College Bearcats at the Northern Sport Centre.
The fourth-year guard had 23 points, including seven from beyond the three-point arc, while Francis Rowe had 13 and Keven Madsen added 12 rebounds, leading the T-wolves to a season-opening victory.
Kevin Ford led the Bearcats with 19 points, while playing 35:56 minutes. Rookie Billy Cheng led the T-wolves in time played with 24:49. Cheng contributed nine points.
A three-point advantage after the first quarter quickly turned into a rout for the T-wolves in the second 10 minutes as UNBC went on a 29-2 run. The T-wolves led 51-21 at the half.
Araujo led UNBC at the half with 11 points, including shooting 3-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc, while Madsen had nine rebounds. The Bearcats were led by Ford and Tim Vaandrager with 11 and 10 points respectively in the first half.
The T-wolves hit the hard court tonight at 8 p.m. against the Douglas College Royals.
