The 2010 Winter Olympics are bringing out the best in Megan Tandy.

Tandy, the pride of Prince George, placed 36th in a field of 60 biathletes during Tuesday's 10-kilometre pursuit race at Whistler Olympic Park. From the start of the race to the finish, the 21-year-old Team Canada member moved up 10 positions. In the last 800 metres -- despite riding on a pair of legs that were screaming in agony -- she turned on the jets and passed two other skiers to nail down her impressive result.

"I was like, 'OK, this is the Olympics, it's the last 800 metres and I'm going to ski as fast as I can,'" Tandy told The Citizen via cell phone Tuesday afternoon. "So that was pretty cool. I passed the two girls within probably 10 metres of the finish line. It was an exciting sprint finish. It was fun."
