T-wolves to reunite with former coach in Winnipeg

After Christmas the UNBC men's basketball team will meet up in Winnipeg to take part in the 45th annual Wesmen Classic at the University of Winnipeg.

For the Timberwolves it's a chance to get some competition against Canadian Interuniversity Sport teams during the Dec. 28 to 30 event. Monday the eight-team university portion of the tournament's schedule was released, which will see the T-wolves play the Brandon Bobcats at noon in their first game, which tips off the university portion of the event.

Dennis Stark, captain of the T-wolves, said he's looking forward to adding some variety into the team's schedule.

"My brother [Dan, a third-year T-wolves guard] and I lived in Winnipeg from 1995 to 1999 so we've got a lot of people we're going to see when we go there," said Stark. "Winnipeg's a great city and I'm sure coach [Mike] Raimbault will host a great tournament and the competition will be some of the best we see all season."

Raimbault, the former T-wolves coach, leads the Wesmen these days.

The T-wolves sport a 4-2 record after the first half of the PACWEST season. If the T-wolves beat the Bobcats (3-5) they'd play the winner of North Dakota's Minot State or UBC-Okanagan on Dec. 29 at 8:30 p.m.

On the other side of the tournament are the Wesmen (2-6), Keyano College from Fort McMurray, the University of Manitoba Bisons (4-4) and North Dakota's Valley City State University Vikings.

The championship game is Dec. 30 at 8 p.m.
