T-wolves dribble up wins in Grande Prairie

It was a double sweep for the UNBC basketball teams in Grande Prairie, Alta., on the weekend. Both the men's and women's teams came up victorious in their exhibition games as they await the start of the PACWEST season next month.

Both the men's and women's teams came up victorious in their exhibition games as they await the start of the PACWEST season next month.

In women's action, the Timberwolves beat Grande Prairie 64-55 and 70-59, Friday and Saturday respectively. Erin Beckett collected a total of 29 points, while Mercedes van Koughnett had 26 total points. van Koughnett also had 10 rebounds Friday for the double-double.

Next weekend, the women head to Calgary to take part in a Mount Royal University tournament.

Meanwhile, the UNBC men's team opened Friday with a 112-52 win over Olds College. Jose Araujo led the Timberwolves with 24 points.

The Timberwolves beat Grande Prairie on Saturday 104-56. Araujo put up 20 points, while Dennis Stark had 17 to go along with 12 rebounds. Dan Stark also had 10 rebounds.

The men head off on a Canadian Interuniveristy Sport road trip this weekend where they'll play games against UBCO, TRU and Fraser Valley.

PACWEST regular season play tips off Nov. 11 versus Columbia Bible College at the North Sport Centre.
