It will be a double dose of the Camosun College Chargers for the University of Northern British Columbia men's and women's basketball teams today in the PACWEST semifinals.
The UNBC Timberwolves' men found out the Chargers would be their opponent at the PACWEST championship at Vancouver's Capilano University after the Victoria-based school edged the Douglas College Royals 68-62 in Thursday's quarterfinal.
In the other men's semifinal, the top-ranked Vancouver Island University (15-1) will play the winner of Thursday's late quarterfinal game between the Langara College Falcons (10-6) and the Capilano University Blues (9-7). The final result was unavailable at press time.
The T-wolves (15-1) women will face the lady Chargers (7-9) in today's semifinal at 3 p.m. The T-wolves swept the season series with the Chargers, though it took a fourth quarter come-from-behind effort in a 62-59 win on Dec. 3.
Camosun beat the Quest University Kermodes (9-7) 67-58 in the quarterfinal Thursday. Aija Salvador led the Chargers with 25 points, while Caitlin Marshall had 21.
In the other women's semifinal, the second-place Vancouver Island University Mariners (14-2) will be looking to avenge a loss in the last week of the regular season, which knocked them out of first place, when they face the host Capilano University Blues (13-3) at 1 p.m.
With their home fans cheering them on the Blues beat the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Eagles (6-10) 84-60 in the opening game of the weekend.
The winners of the women's semifinals will meet in the gold-medal match Saturday at 6 p.m. with the men's gold-medal game to follow at 8 p.m. between the semifinal winners.
