Everything Zach Swanson shot ended up in the net.
Or so it seemed, at least.
Swanson, a 12-year-old forward for the Fortwood Homes peewee Tier 4 Cougars, scored eight goals in a trio of weekend wins for the local minor hockey team. On Friday night, he scored four times in a Cariboo Amateur Hockey Association contest against the Mackenzie Knights, a game that ended 8-2 in favour of the Cats. Then, in a 10-2 victory against the Knights on Saturday, Swanson finished with a hat trick. On Sunday, the Cougars took on the Prince George Northland Hyundai bantam girls in an exhibition game and Swanson added another goal in a 6-0 victory.
Defenceman Michael Rolfes had three goals in the Saturday win, Ryan Hampe scored twice in that game and Cole Johnston had a combined three goals and an assist. Other weekend markers were courtesy of Tyler Braaten (2), Nolan Dancey, Quinten Astorino, Eric Orlowsky, Evan Guillet, Tyler Lindstrom and Logan Vennberg. Liam O'Beirne had four helpers.
"We had some standout performances all through our roster, with a balanced scoring attack, and that was fun to see the kids challenging each other like that, having fun," said head coach Denny Astorino. "We had lost two games in Fraser Lake two weeks before so this was good for the confidence."
In the Cariboo league contests, Ajay Nickolet scored two of Mackenzie's goals, with singles by Kayleigh Calder and Taylor Beale.
Nicholas Husband and Josh Fielding shared the goaltending chores for Prince George, including in Sunday's shutout.
