Hudson’s Hope has just over 1,000 people and none more famous for their hockey ability than John Herrington.
The 20-year-old centre has made quite a name for himself the past three seasons playing for the Prince George Spruce Kings as their leading scorer. On Wednesday his achievements were recognized when he was chosen as the team's most valuable player.
Herrington, a Lake Superior State NCAA recruit for next season, leads the Kings in scoring with 23 goals and 24 assists for 49 points in 52 games, with a chance to add to his totals Friday and Saturday in Cranbrook, where the Kings wrap up the regular season.
The former Cariboo Cougar joined the Spruce Kings as an affiliated player in the 2019-20 season and in 136 career BCHL games he has 53 goals and 115 points.
Forward Luca Primerano was named rookie of the year and top scholastic player. The New Hampshire recruit has eight goals and 15 assists for 26 points in 40 games.
Kings captain Colton Cameron (Bentley University) won the Fan Favourite award, while Linden Makow, a Vanderhoof native, was the most improved player.
Ben LeFranc was the Kings’ choice as top defenceman.

The plus/minus and top scorer awards will be presented following the weekend games in Cranbrook.
The Spruce Kings (26-20-5-1-0, fifth in Interior Conference) are just two points back of the third-place Salmon Arm Silverbacks (27-19-4-2-0), who lost 6-3 Wednesday to the Penticton Vees.
The Spruce Kings are tied in points (58) with West Kelowna and Vernon, one point head of the seventh-place Wenatchee Wild. Each team has two games left.
