If the Prince George Spruce Kings defeat the Cowichan Valley Capitals tonight in Duncan, they can strike one more item off their B.C. Hockey League to-do list.
A win over the Caps would be the first for the Kings this season against a Coastal Conference opponent. They finally registered their first point against a Coastal team Wednesday night in Nanaimo. losing 4-3 in double-overtime, a game the Kings led 3-1 until the late stages of the third period.
With 11 games left in the season, the Kings are four points behind the Trail Smoke Eaters, who lost 3-1 to the Langley Chiefs Thursday night in Trail. The Kings have two games in hand over the Smokies.
The Kings (14-30-1-4) will play three games in the next three days, visiting the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in Port Alberni on Saturday, then ending their tour with a Sunday afternoon clash with the Victoria Grizzlies. So far this season, the Kings have yet to defeat a team with a winning record. Victoria and Alberni Valley are both above the .500 mark.
Tonight's game will be broadcast on the league website, www.bchl.bc.ca. Kings play-by-play announcer Ron Gallo will provide game updates on his daily blog on Twitter throughout the roadtrip on the Kings website, www.sprucekings.bc.ca.
