The Prince George Spruce Kings are back in high life again.
Chad Staley's power-play goal midway through the second period made all the difference Wednesday night in Coquitlam.
Staley took a pass from behind the net from linemate Jeremiah Luedte and rifled it into the net for the gamewinner in a 3-2 decision over the Coquitlam Express.
The win vaulted the Kings (10-5-0-2) into first in the B.C. Hockey League's Mainland Division, one point ahead of the idle Chiliwack Chiefs (10-3-0-1), who have three games in hand over Prince George.
Jake LeBrun and Justin Rai also scored for the Kings, who wrap up their roadtrip tonight in Langley against the third-place (5-4-1-3) Rivermen. Staley also had an assist, as did Rai. Colton Kerfoot scored two goals late in the second period and the Kings withstood a late rally attempt by the Express with goalie Chris Tai on the bench for the extra skater.
Jesse Jenks made 19 saves to preserve the victory. The Kings outshot the Express 32-21.
