The Prince George Spruce Kings are no longer dwellers of the B.C. Hockey League basement.

For the third straight game the Spruce Kings left the ice on the winning side of the ledger.

The latest triumph, a 3-1 win over the Merritt Centennials Sunday afternoon at the Coliseum, allowed the Kings to climb into seventh place in the Interior Division, one point ahead of the Quesnel Millionaires and two behind the Cents, who hold down the sixth and final Interior playoff spot.

Backed by a 34-save outing from Alex Wright and two goals from defenceman Justin Fillion, the Kings improved to 5-15-0-2. The Cents, who have two games in hand over Prince George, dropped to 4-11-0-5.

RJay Berra opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period. Fillion's goals came in the second period and gave the Kings a 3-0 lead. Dustin Lebrun broke up Wright's shutout bid with just 6:06 left in the third period.

The Cents gained two of a possible six points on their three-game trip, losing 2-1 in overtime Saturday in Quesnel.

The Kings visit Salmon Arm on Friday and are in Vernon on Saturday.
