The Prince George Spruce Kings would like to invite everyone to wear pink on Friday night when the team recognizes breast cancer awareness month. This Friday the players will be wearing pink in their uniforms as part of their game plan to help promote breast cancer awareness with the Canadian Cancer Society British Columbia and Yukon branch.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women with being a woman and getting older being the biggest risk factors. Breast cancer affects everyone whether it be a friend, sister, mother or grandmother and knowing is the first step in helping to reduce the risks.
"It was the players that first approached the team with their intentions of doing something for breast cancer awareness month," said Spruce Kings communications director, Ron Gallo. "It just goes to show that breast cancer in women affects everyone. It is an honour to be able to bring awareness to the rink for something that doesn't differentiate between work and entertainment."
Volunteers from the local Canadian Cancer Society will be on hand with educational information and answers to questions. Also in attendance will be Maureen Bustin and her 10 year old grandson for a ceremonial puck drop before the game. Maureen is a breast cancer survivor of 17 years.
