Spruce Kings fall in double OT, swept from playoffs

The Prince George Spruce Kings are out of the 2023 playoffs.

The Prince George Spruce Kings gave their fans at Kopar Memorial Arena nearly five full periods of hockey Wednesday night but couldn’t come up with the winning goal, as they fell 2-1 to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in double overtime.

The loss eliminated the Spruce Kings from the BCHL Playoffs.

Jordan Fairlie turned aside 47 of 49 shots for the Kings in his final game of junior hockey.

In the first period, the Silverbacks opened the scoring early. Mathieu Bourgault scored his first of the playoffs to put Salmon Arm ahead 1-0. Liam Steele earned his first assist of the postseason on the play at 3:25 of the opening period.
