The first half of the season can't come to an end soon enough for the Prince George Spruce Kings.

Playing a rare daytime weekday game, the Kings opened a four-game Coastal road trip on Tuesday with an 8-2 drubbing at the hands of the Langley Chiefs.

The game, which started at 11 a.m., attracted 1,470 spectators to the Langley Events Centre and saw the Chiefs outshoot the Kings 42-34.

Former Everett Silvertips forward Matt Ius had three goals and an assist for the Chiefs, while Kevin Tuohy had four assists. Trace Strahle, Kody Dhaliwal, Trevor Gerling, Josh Myers and Kit Sitterley had the other Langley goals. Cole Huggins got the win in goal.

Lyndon Martell and captain RJay Berra had the goals for the Spruce Kings. Cameron Large and Kirk Thompson split goaltending duties with Large allowing three goals and Thompson surrendering five.

The Spruce Kings sit last overall in the BCHL at 7-29-0-2 (16 points), and the team's road record is a league-worst 2-17-0-1.

The Spruce Kings are 1-7 since head coach and general manager Ed Dempsey was fired and Dave Dupas took over bench duties on Nov. 23.

The road trip, which leads up to the Christmas break, continues today in Coquitlam, Friday in Powell River, and in Surrey on Saturday. The next home game for the Kings is Dec. 29, against Quesnel.
