Despite losing its only American franchise with the departure of the Wenatchee Wild to the Western Hockey League, the B.C. Hockey League still plans to host its annual showcase in Seattle.
The BCHL has partnered with the NHL’s Seattle Kraken for the five-day event, Oct. 22-26.
Each BCHL team will play two regular-season games at the Kraken Community Iceplex in Seattle.
The showcase allows NCAA and pro scouts to gather in one location during the same week to see all 17 BCHL teams in action.
The Prince George Spruce Kings are going stateside to play two Coastal Conference opponents.
On Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 10:50 a.m., the Spruce Kings will be on the visitors’ bench when they take on the Powell River Kings. Then on Thursday, Oct. 26, Prince George hosts the Nanaimo Clippers as the home team for a game that starts at 4:50 p.m.
The two games are part of a 54-game schedule for the Spruce Kings in 2023-24.
The regular seasons starts on the road in Salmon Arm against the Silverbacks on Friday, Sept. 23.
The Spruce Kings return to Kopar Memorial Arena for their home-opening weekend. They play the Chilliwack Chiefs on Saturday, Sept. 29, then host the Merritt Centennials in a Sunday matinee on Sept. 30.
The Wild took over the WHL franchise when the Winnipeg ICE announced the move to Wenatchee on June 16. The Wild joined the BCHL in 2015 and played eight seasons in the junior A league.
