The Prince George Spruce Kings added another big forward to their lineup Friday when they acquired Frankie Spellman from the Kenai River (Alaska) Brown Bears of the North American Hockey League in exchange for future considerations.
Spellman is a six-foot-one 200-pound 19-year-old forward from Des Moines, Iowa.
Last season in Kenai River, Spellman scored seven goals and added eight assists to go along with 123 penalty minutes in 52 games.
Spellman spent the 2012-13 season with the triple-A midget Shattuck St. Mary's prep school in Minnesota where he tallied 44 goals and 52 assists for 96 points in 70 games.
"Frankie is a hard-working power forward with very good offensive abilities," said Spruce Kings GM Mike Hawes. "He shoots the puck hard and has the ability to put up good numbers at our level. He also plays the game the right way and will provide a physical presence for us up front. Our fans will enjoy watching this young man play."
Spellman will join the rest of the Spruce Kings at the start of their B.C. Hockey League camp Aug. 29 at the Coliseum.
